Woman found after alleged abduction in North West

A 35-year-old woman who was allegedly abducted while on her way to work in Lomanyaneng, North West, has been found.

Prudence Motlalepule Mooketsi was reportedly travelling to work at about 07:00 on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, when she allegedly sent an alarming message to her boyfriend saying she needed help and had been taken against her will in a motor vehicle.

According to police, Mooketsi did not provide details about the number of people involved or the vehicle she was allegedly forced into.

Her boyfriend tried calling her to establish her location, but the calls went unanswered and were redirected to voicemail. He then reported the matter to police, who launched an investigation.

Police said Mooketsi was found on Thursday evening, 17 September, after she was dropped off next to the road at Dithakong Village, not far from where she was allegedly abducted.

Community members assisted her and contacted police. Emergency and Medical Rescue Services were called to the scene after she was found severely traumatised.

North West police spokesperson Constable Thuto Bobelo said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction were continuing.

“We appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward and contact the investigating officer or the nearest police station,” said Bobelo.

Police urged members of the public not to circulate unverified information, warning that this could compromise the investigation and cause unnecessary alarm.
