UPDATE: Tembisa cemetery murder: Suspect arrested in Limpopo

Gauteng police have also arrested a suspect in Limpopo in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was discovered at Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa on Saturday night.

The deceased, identified as Ntombifuthu Nxumalo, was found naked with serious head injuries at the cemetery in the Vusimusi Section. Stones were found around her body, raising the possibility that she may have been stoned.

Police said no visible stab wounds were observed at the scene.

Preliminary investigations established that Nxumalo had been drinking at a local tavern with a female acquaintance before leaving the premises in the company of an unidentified man.

Residents living near the cemetery allegedly heard a woman screaming and pleading for her life at about 23:00.

Investigators traced the suspect to an address in Tembisa before establishing that he had travelled to Limpopo.

A joint team comprising Crime Intelligence Ekurhuleni District, Tembisa South detectives and the SAPS Head Office Investigations Psychology Services travelled to Mohlabaneng Village in Limpopo and requested assistance from SAPS Bolobedu.

The suspect was found asleep in his room and arrested.

Gauteng police have commended the multidisciplinary team for the swift response and investigative work that led to the arrest.

The suspect is expected to appear in court on a murder charge.
