WATCH | Two Jamaicans among five arrested at R1m hydroponic dagga lab in De Deur
Two Jamaican nationals are among five suspects arrested during an intelligence-driven police operation in De Deur, south of Johannesburg, in which a hydroponic dagga laboratory worth more than R1 million was uncovered.
The suspects, aged between 29 and 68, are expected to appear in the Meyerton Magistrates’ Court on Monday following their arrest on Thursday, 27 August.
The other three suspects are two Malawian nationals and one Lesotho national.
Police also recovered a .303 rifle and a 9mm Glock pistol during the operation.
The suspects face charges relating to contraventions of Sections 3 and 5(b) of the Drug Trafficking Act 140 of 1992. Two of the suspects face additional charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The operation involved members of the Gauteng Counter-Intelligence Narcotics Unit, Gauteng Organised Crime, West Rand K9 Unit, Forensic Science Laboratory, National Cybercrime Unit and private security companies.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday.
Police investigations are continuing.
