WATCH | R2.1bn Cornubia development nears completion as eThekwini hails investment
A new R2.1 billion development in Cornubia, north of Durban, is nearing completion, with the first phase expected to be finished by December.
eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba visited the site on Monday and was briefed on progress at the Cornubia Business Park, which includes new stores for international retailer Leroy Merlin.
The R200 million Leroy Merlin investment is expected to be completed in December, with the stores scheduled to open on 16 December 2026.
Future phases will include the Emeris Campus, which is expected to accommodate about 8 000 students, as well as commercial properties.
The development has so far created about 300 construction jobs, with another 100 permanent positions expected when the first phase is completed.
A further 2 000 sustainable jobs are expected when the second phase begins next year.
Xaba said the investment showed growing private-sector confidence in eThekwini and would support economic growth and employment.
EThekwini Municipality Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba conducted a site inspection in Westville to assess progress on leak repairs being done along the Southern Aqueduct.
