Maile said Ndlovu understood that sports broadcasting went beyond simply describing events on the field, involving the emotion, theatre, language and culture of sport.
“Owen Ndlovu belonged to a generation of broadcasters who understood that sports broadcasting is not simply about describing what is happening on the field but about translating the emotion, theatre, language and culture of sport into an experience that millions of people can share,” Maile said.
He extended his condolences to the Ndlovu family, the broadcasting fraternity, the sporting community, and the artists and creatives with whom Ndlovu worked and advocated.
“To the Ndlovu family, we extend our deepest sympathies. To the broadcasting fraternity, the sporting community and the artists and creatives with whom he worked and advocated, we share your loss,” Maile said.
Maile also called on anyone with information that could assist the police investigation into Ndlovu’s death to come forward and cooperate fully with the South African Police Service.
“We call upon anyone who may possess information that could assist the police investigation to cooperate fully with SAPS,” he said.
