Vanderbijlpark water shortages continue as pumping resumes after electricity maintenance

Residents in parts of Vanderbijlpark are experiencing water shortages after planned electricity maintenance disrupted pumping operations at the town’s reservoirs.

The maintenance, which was carried out over two days at the Munic and Town substations, interrupted electricity supply to the water pumping system.

According to the Emfuleni Local Municipality, electricity was restored on Sunday night and pumping operations have since resumed.

Residents in low-lying areas are beginning to receive water, while consumers in higher-lying areas, including the CBD, CE and CW areas, are expected to receive supply as reservoir levels recover.

The municipality said reservoir levels remained low as pumping operations continued.

The latest levels reported by the Water Demand Management Team were:

No 1 reservoir: 4.5 ML at 3.75m

No 2 reservoir: 4.5 ML at 3.75m

No 3 reservoir: 18 ML at 7.5m

No 4 reservoir: 27 ML at 2m

No 5 reservoir: 27 ML at 5m

No 6 reservoir: 27 ML at 5m

HL Concrete: 0.29m

HL Steel: 4.2%

Rand Water WKPA: 3 bar

The municipality said three pumps were currently operating inside the HL Concrete reservoir, while another three were running inside the HL Steel reservoir.

Affected residents have been urged to use water sparingly while the system recovers and reservoir levels improve.

The municipality apologised for the disruption and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation.
