Tshwane metro police official granted R3,000 bail in alleged kidnapping and robbery case

A 34-year-old Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) official has appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances and kidnapping.

Tukiso Brian Makgolane was granted R3,000 bail after the State did not oppose his release.

It is alleged that on 4 July 2026, Makgolane stopped the complainant and his friend while they were travelling on the R80 highway in Pretoria and instructed the complainant to get out of his vehicle.

According to the allegations, three armed men then approached the complainant and ordered him back into his vehicle. The three men allegedly drove away with him, leaving Makgolane at the scene.

The alleged kidnappers reportedly instructed the complainant to drop off his friend at Sareza Avenue before taking him to an unknown house, where he was allegedly held against his will.

The complainant's family was allegedly contacted, and a ransom demand was made in exchange for his release.

He was allegedly released on 17 July and dropped off in a veld in Wonderboom. He walked to a nearby petrol station, where he sought help before being collected by his brother.

The matter was reported to police on the same day.

Following an investigation, Makgolane allegedly handed himself over to police on 17 September and was arrested.

The National Prosecuting Authority said the State did not oppose bail as Makgolane was not considered a flight risk.

The court found that his release was in the interests of justice and granted him R3,000 bail.

The matter was postponed to 2 December 2026 for further investigations.
