Three arrested after firearm with filed-off serial number found in Mofolo

Three suspects have been arrested after officers recovered a firearm with its serial number filed off during a patrol in Mofolo, Soweto.

TRU officers were conducting patrols when they spotted a silver-grey Honda Amaze jumping a red traffic light.

The officers stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Elias Motsoaledi and Nxumalo streets and conducted a search.

During the search, an extended magazine was found in the front passenger’s footwell.

When officers questioned the occupants about the firearm linked to the magazine, one of them allegedly told police that the firearm had been hidden inside the glovebox.

Officers searched the glovebox and recovered a black firearm with its serial number filed off.

All three occupants were arrested and detained at Moroka SAPS.

The vehicle was impounded and booked at the Lenasia SAPS pound.
