Suspect arrested with R700 000 worth of suspected stolen copper cables

West Rand police have arrested a 42-year-old man and recovered suspected stolen copper cables worth approximately R700 000 during an intelligence-driven operation in Tarlton.

The operation was conducted on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, by the West Rand District Crime Intelligence in collaboration with Krugersdorp Visible Policing members.

Police received information about a white Isuzu truck allegedly being used to transport stolen copper cables from Rustenburg to a scrapyard in Krugersdorp. After verifying the information, officers tracked down the vehicle and intercepted it in the Tarlton area.

A search of the truck uncovered a large quantity of copper cables believed to have been stolen. The driver was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.

He is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
