SA National Parks Week offers free entry to day visitors

South Africans will once again be able to explore several national parks for free during SA National Parks Week from 7 to 13 September 2026.

The annual initiative, aimed at encouraging South Africans to experience and appreciate the country’s natural heritage, provides free entry for day visitors at participating parks.

Visitors must present a valid South African identity document at the gate, while children must also provide valid identification.

The free access does not include accommodation, guided activities or other paid experiences inside the parks.

Kruger National Park will offer free access from 7 to 11 September, while most participating parks will extend the initiative until 13 September.

In the Cape Region, Agulhas, Bontebok, Table Mountain and Tankwa Karoo will offer free access from 7 to 13 September. At Table Mountain National Park, the offer excludes the Boulders Penguin Colony and Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.

Addo Elephant, Camdeboo, Karoo, Mountain Zebra and Garden Route national parks will also participate from 7 to 13 September.

In the Northern Region, Golden Gate Highlands, Mapungubwe and Marakele will offer free entry during the same period.

In the Arid Region, |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld, Kgalagadi and Mokala will participate until 13 September, while Augrabies Falls will offer free entry from 7 to 11 September.
