Reiger Park killings: 26-year-old suspect to appear in court over illegal firearm

A 26-year-old man is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with the alleged possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested on Friday, 4 September, during an intelligence-driven operation involving the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Germiston, the Gauteng Tactical Response Team and the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit.

According to the Hawks, the suspect was allegedly found in possession of a revolver, ammunition and two cellphones.

Preliminary investigations have also allegedly linked him to the murder of two women and two police officers who were shot and killed in Reiger Park on 7 August.

The four victims were killed during a shooting that prompted a major police investigation in the area.

The Hawks said the investigation was continuing and that additional charges could not be ruled out.

The suspect is due to appear in court on 8 September.
