Premier Ndlovu, MEC Macie lead high-density operation in Mbombela
Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu, Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Jacky Macie and provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise led a multidisciplinary high-density operation in Mbombela on Friday.
The operation brought together SAPS, traffic law enforcement, Home Affairs, SARS, Correctional Services, the City of Mbombela, private security and the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator.
Authorities confiscated illicit liquor worth more than R2 million and counterfeit goods valued at more than R100 000.
Three suspects were arrested for allegedly dealing in dagga with an estimated street value of R50 000, while three unroadworthy vehicles were impounded.
Correctional Services officials also traced and arrested six parolees who had allegedly absconded.
Environmental Health officials found six shops operating without Certificates of Acceptability, while six undocumented people were arrested for alleged contraventions of the Immigration Act.
Two unlicensed liquor outlets were closed and their liquor confiscated.
The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority issued 49 non-compliance notices during the operation.
Modise said similar multidisciplinary operations would continue across the province.
“This multidisciplinary high density operation demonstrates our collective commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities,” Modise said.
Ndlovu commended the team under the leadership of the provincial commissioner for the coordinated operation.
