Over R500,000 worth of dagga confiscated during Operation Retshepeng in Musina
More than R500,000 worth of dagga has been confiscated during a multidisciplinary law-enforcement operation in the Musina policing area.
Operation Retshepeng was conducted on Friday by Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, newly appointed Transport and Community Safety MEC Nakedi Kekana and Limpopo SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers.
The operation involved SAPS, the Border Management Authority, SANDF, provincial government departments, Musina Local Municipality and traffic police, among other agencies.
Police confiscated 11 black plastic bags containing dagga estimated to be worth R525,000, along with two weighing scales, a cellphone and other goods.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of one suspect for dealing in dagga, 62 undocumented foreign nationals, two suspects for selling liquor without a licence and five for contravening the Liquor Act.
A further suspect was arrested for overstaying in the country, while two people were arrested for selling expired goods.
Traffic officials issued 21 summonses, executed 27 warrants and impounded two maxi-taxis for operating without valid permits.
Scheepers welcomed the outcome, saying multidisciplinary operations were essential in disrupting criminal activities and ensuring the safety of communities.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate's Court on various charges.
