Morero returns to Jabulani Flats to address residents’ concerns

Johannesburg Executive Mayor Dada Morero has returned to Jabulani Flats following a public community engagement with residents last week, where he committed to conducting a site visit.

Morero, accompanied by MMC for Development Planning Cllr Eunice Mgcina, walked through the flats, listened to residents and assessed challenges affecting the precinct.

The City has identified several interventions to address infrastructure, development and safety concerns.

Johannesburg Water will repair leaking pipes and sewer blockages, while work to reroute a sewer servitude affecting bonded houses is expected to be completed by October. The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) will address identified road infrastructure problems.

The City will also develop a plan to improve safety and parking management and begin the process of demolishing illegal structures.

Morero said the City would work with residents to explore establishing a representative body corporate to strengthen accountability and long-term management of the precinct.
