Mogotsi bail application on new facts postponed

Oupa Brown Mogotsi’s bail application on new facts continued in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, with the State set to resume cross-examining him on 11 September.

Mogotsi is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, defeating or obstructing the administration of justice, and perjury.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, Mogotsi testified in support of his application and gave his version of an alleged escape plan. He was subsequently cross-examined by the State.

The matter was postponed for the continuation of the State’s cross-examination.

Mogotsi’s case stems from an alleged shooting incident in Vosloorus on 3 November 2025.

It is alleged that Mogotsi reported to police that he had been driving alone in Vosloorus when occupants of a bakkie pursued him and fired several shots at his vehicle.

According to the allegations, Mogotsi was forced to stop the vehicle and flee on foot.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it would continue opposing Mogotsi’s bail application and present its case before the court in accordance with legal processes.

The latest proceedings form part of Mogotsi’s renewed attempt to secure bail based on new facts presented to the court.
