Midvaal repairs more than 2,900 potholes in month-long road campaign

Midvaal Local Municipality says its War on Potholes campaign has gained momentum, with road maintenance teams repairing more than 2,900 potholes during the month.

The municipality’s Roads Section identified 2,888 potholes and repaired 2,432, while the Water Section identified a further 604 potholes and repaired 524.

The combined effort resulted in at least 2,956 potholes being repaired.

The municipality said its road maintenance programme extends beyond pothole repairs and includes measures aimed at improving the overall condition of the road network.

Stormwater maintenance teams cleared debris and obstructions from more than 423 metres of stormwater infrastructure to improve drainage and reduce the risk of water-related damage to roads.

Teams also regravelled at least 14km of gravel roads, while grading and shaping roads, placing road-building material such as G5 where required, and maintaining mitre drains.

The campaign also includes tree cutting, weed control and the clearing of illegal dumping sites.

Road marking teams have repainted faded stop signs and rusted road-sign poles and refreshed markings on speed humps to improve visibility and road safety.

The municipality said the War on Potholes campaign would continue across Midvaal as it works to address road maintenance backlogs and improve the safety and reliability of its road network.
