Mapisa-Nqakula corruption case postponed for judgment

The corruption case against former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has been postponed to 7 September 2026 for judgment on her application to be discharged.

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria heard extensive arguments from Mapisa-Nqakula’s legal team and the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) before postponing the matter.

Mapisa-Nqakula is facing 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering.

The state alleges that she solicited R4.5 million from a service provider while serving as Speaker of the National Assembly. It further alleges that R2.1 million of the money was received in cash.

Her legal team brought the application in terms of Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Act, which allows an accused to apply for a discharge at the end of the state's case where there is insufficient evidence to justify a conviction.

The court will deliver its judgment on the application next week.
