Man sentenced to 28 years in prison for killing girlfriend in Limpopo

A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 28 years' direct imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend in Tshivaloni Village, Limpopo.

Shadrack Sithole was sentenced by the Musina Regional Court on Thursday, 17 September 2026, after being convicted of murder.

The court heard that Sithole and his girlfriend were at a shebeen in Tshivaloni Village on 9 July 2025 when an argument reportedly broke out.

Sithole subsequently stabbed his girlfriend several times with a knife.

Police and emergency medical services were called to the scene. The woman was found with multiple stab wounds and was declared dead at the scene.

Sithole had fled before police arrived.

A murder case was opened at Masisi police station and assigned to Sergeant Muthuphei Theophillus Musumuvhi of the Masisi Detective Unit.

The investigating officer immediately began tracing the suspect and managed to locate and arrest him on the same day.

Sithole was denied bail on several occasions and remained in custody throughout the court proceedings.

Following the investigation and trial, the Musina Regional Court convicted Sithole of murder and sentenced him to 28 years' direct imprisonment.

Limpopo provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers commended Musumuvhi for his dedication in ensuring that the accused was brought before court.

“We appreciate all the efforts displayed by everyone involved in this matter,” Scheepers said.
