Man arrested with firearms, ammunition and SAPS items in Klipgat

A 49-year-old man has been arrested in Klipgat after police seized firearms, ammunition, suspected stolen property and South African Police Service (SAPS) uniform-related items during an intelligence-driven operation.

The Provincial Anti-Gang Unit and Provincial Crime Intelligence Overt Operations conducted the operation in the early hours of Monday, 31 August 2026.

Police acted on intelligence and obtained a search warrant for a residence in Klipgat.

During the search, officers recovered three firearms, including a silver 9mm pistol with its serial number allegedly filed off. Two other firearms were described as blank firearms, with one allegedly modified to fire live ammunition.

Police also seized 115 live 9mm rounds, three empty 9mm magazines, three empty 9mm cartridges, 40 blank rounds and a pistol holster.

The search further uncovered eight laptops, three cellphones and a Motorola hand-held radio. One of the laptops had a government department sticker.

Police also confiscated about 21.332kg of copper cable, valued at approximately R5 000.

Among the other items recovered were two SAPS caps, police socks, a SAPS pocketbook and a SAPS badge. These items will form part of the investigation.

Several units and stakeholders, including the Klipgat SAPS Local Criminal Record Centre, Provincial Organised Crime, the Head Office Commercial Crime Cyber Unit, Transnet and Eskom, were involved in processing the exhibits.

The suspect faces three counts of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property and unlawful possession of state property.

He is expected to appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Arthur Adams praised the police and other stakeholders for their coordinated efforts.

“Through strengthened partnerships, intelligence sharing and coordinated operations, we will continue to disrupt criminal activities and ensure that those who break the law are brought to justice,” Adams said.
