Lost iPhone reunited with owner after attorney's social media appeal
A routine morning run in Fourways, Johannesburg, turned into an unexpected mission to reunite a lost iPhone with its owner.
Attorney Sharné Zimri, the owner of Zimri Attorneys, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the story after finding the phone lying on Straight Street in Pineslopes on Tuesday morning.
According to Zimri's social-media posts, she was out on her regular run when she spotted the iPhone. A fellow jogger, whom she did not know, had also noticed the phone. The two happened to cross paths at the same spot, with the man holding up the phone while Zimri took a photograph.
The jogger then left the phone with Zimri before continuing with his run.
Zimri said she posted a photograph of the phone on X and asked her followers to share it in an effort to track down its owner. She also offered to keep the phone safe for collection.
She reached out to fellow legal practitioner Tumi Sole, whose large following helped spread the appeal.
When the first post did not immediately identify the owner, Zimri posted another photograph showing the phone's lock screen. It featured three women smiling together, prompting her to ask whether anyone recognised them.
In a subsequent update, Zimri said the appeal had reached the owner's family, with her sisters and mother getting in touch.
However, she said it was ultimately a colleague of the owner who helped resolve the situation by calling the lost number directly.
Zimri shared her contact details, and the owner contacted her to arrange a handover.
According to Zimri, the owner had not even realised that her phone was missing until the call came through.
In a final update, Zimri said she had spoken to the owner and that the two had arranged to meet, marking the end of the social-media search.
