Localised flooding leaves vehicles trapped in Doornfontein

Motorists have been urged to avoid parts of Doornfontein after heavy rainfall caused severe localised flooding, leaving several vehicles submerged and stranded.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said flooding was reported at the intersection of Siemert Road and Currey Street on Sunday afternoon.

Several vehicles became trapped in high water at the location, prompting JMPD officers to attend the scene and manage traffic.

Officers are assisting stranded motorists and diverting vehicles away from the flooded section.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible and use alternative routes.

JMPD has urged motorists encountering submerged roads or rising water to turn around immediately, warning that stalled vehicles can obstruct emergency response teams and pose a serious safety risk.

Road users are further advised to reduce their speed, maintain a safe following distance, keep their headlights on and obey temporary road closures, barricades and instructions from officers.
