Leratong Village falls under City of Johannesburg, Demarcation Board confirms

The Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) has confirmed that Leratong Village is geographically located within Ward 127 of the City of Johannesburg, ending uncertainty over the municipality in which the area falls.

The confirmation was made during a meeting at Leratong Hospital involving MDB chairperson Thabo Manyoni, Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Jacob Mamabolo, Mogale City executive mayor Lucky Sele and City of Johannesburg speaker Margaret Arnolds.

The meeting was convened to clarify the municipal jurisdiction and spatial location of Leratong Village following concerns and public discussions over the demarcation of the area.

According to the MDB, its official spatial demarcation information places Leratong Village within Ward 127 of the City of Johannesburg.

The board said its role is to determine and maintain municipal boundaries in terms of the applicable legislative framework and provide authoritative information on municipal and ward demarcations.

The MDB said it would continue engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure there is a common understanding of municipal boundaries and that accurate information is communicated to affected communities.
