High-level delegation to probe discovery of seven women’s bodies in Gauteng

A high-level government delegation will meet with senior police management and investigators on Tuesday evening following the discovery of the bodies of seven women in different parts of Gauteng.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia, Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga, Deputy Police Minister Polly Boshielo, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Acting National Commissioner of Police Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane will lead the meeting.

The delegation is expected to receive a comprehensive briefing on the latest developments in the investigations, including progress made in identifying those responsible for the deaths.

The meeting will also focus on the deployment of multidisciplinary expertise and measures being implemented to ensure that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice.

The delegation will meet senior South African Police Service (SAPS) management and investigators at the SAPS Gauteng Provincial Office in Parktown.

The meeting comes amid growing concern over the discovery of the seven women’s bodies across the province.

Government said the high-level engagement underscores the seriousness with which the incidents are being treated and its commitment to deploying every available resource and area of expertise to the investigations.
