Gauteng government mourns racing driver Robert Wolk

The Gauteng Provincial Government has expressed its condolences to the family, friends and motorsport community following the death of South African racing driver Robert Wolk, who was killed in a shooting incident in Kempton Park.

Wolk was a prominent figure in South African motorsport, with a career spanning nearly three decades. He won numerous national titles, including back-to-back South African GTC championships and victories at the Simola Hillclimb.

Police have confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the shooting.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi commended the South African Police Service (SAPS) for what he described as a swift response in apprehending the suspects.

“The tragic and violent death of Robert Wolk, a true ambassador for South African motorsport, has deeply shocked our province. Road rage and senseless violence have no place in our society,” Lesufi said.

“We are grateful for the swift and decisive response of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in arresting suspects linked to this tragedy, and we trust that the full force of the law will ensure justice is served. Our province mourns alongside the Wolk family during this devastating time.”

The Gauteng government said Wolk’s legacy on and off the track would endure and conveyed its condolences to those affected by his death.
