Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile joined a major police-led raid at schools in Daveyton and Etwatwa on Wednesday as authorities stepped up efforts to tackle crime, drugs, gangsterism and weapons in schools.

The operation, involving SAPS, EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Wardens and Community Patrollers, targeted four schools, with learners and classrooms searched.

At Phandimfundo and Lekamoso secondary schools, officials recovered 31 prohibited items, including vapes, dagga, cigarettes, scissors, matches and suspected drugs.

At Rivoni Secondary School, a bullet was found concealed in a learner’s arm strap, while an Okapi knife, vapes and other prohibited items were also seized.
