eThekwini deploys extra teams as severe weather causes widespread power outages

eThekwini Municipality has deployed additional technical teams to deal with widespread power outages affecting several parts of the city amid severe weather conditions.

The municipality’s Electricity and Energy Directorate said its Contact Centre was receiving a high volume of calls from residents reporting electricity faults.

Additional teams have been sent to affected areas to assist with repairs and speed up the restoration of power supplies.

However, the large number of faults has resulted in prolonged outages in some areas as municipal teams work through the backlog.

Residents have been urged to remain patient while repair teams attend to faults, with the municipality stressing that restoration work must be carried out as safely as possible given the prevailing weather conditions.

Residents can track reported faults and receive real-time updates through the municipality’s official platforms.

The municipality’s WhatsApp chatbot is available on 064 761 7930, while customers can use the USSD service by dialling 1343532#.

Residents can also report and track outages through the municipality’s online fault portal.

The municipality thanked residents for their patience, understanding and cooperation as teams continue working to restore electricity supplies across affected areas.
