Chabalala vows to ‘fix’ Emfuleni as DA targets ANC over service delivery failures

DA Gauteng leader Kingsol Chabalala has launched his Emfuleni manifesto, promising to tackle corruption, nepotism and failing basic services while restoring accountability and public trust.

Addressing residents, Chabalala said communities had suffered for too long from sewage spills, uncollected refuse, pothole-riddled roads, water shortages and prolonged electricity outages.

“How much longer must the people of Emfuleni suffer before we say: enough is enough?” he asked.

Chabalala blamed the ANC-led municipality for allowing a “culture of failure” to become normal and questioned how millions of rands could be spent while basic services continued to deteriorate.

He pledged to scrutinise municipal contracts, payments, tenders and employee claims, saying public money must be used for public priorities.

Chabalala also promised to tackle alleged nepotism in municipal employment, saying jobs should be awarded on merit rather than political connections.

His manifesto identifies six priorities: clean and corruption-free government; infrastructure investment; reliable basic services; ending nepotism; growing the local economy and creating jobs; and restoring trust through improved billing, youth empowerment and service delivery.

Chabalala said residents should judge government by results rather than promises.

“The time for excuses is over. The time to rebuild Emfuleni is now,” he said.
