ANCYL commends PKTT for Emfuleni corruption crackdown

The Gauteng Provincial Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has been commended by the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Sedibeng for its crackdown on alleged corruption and patronage networks within Emfuleni Local Municipality.

The ANCYL welcomed the recent arrests linked to the R16 million “Ghost Fleet” scandal, in which 18 vehicles were reportedly paid for. Still, only seven were delivered, as well as the arrest of an alleged mastermind behind a R9.9 million electricity reconnection syndicate.

ANCYL Sedibeng regional secretary Tshenolo Mofokeng said the arrests vindicated the organisation’s long-standing concerns about corruption in Emfuleni.

“For too long, the ANCYL has maintained that Emfuleni is not collapsing on its own, that it is being collapsed by entrenched corruption syndicates between officials, tenderpreneurs and political gangsters who turned our municipality into a feeding scheme,” Mofokeng said.

He said the cases pointed to sophisticated and institutionalised corruption involving officials, tender cartels and patronage networks.

Mofokeng urged the PKTT to continue with its investigations and pursue all those allegedly involved.

“Do not stop. Ungrave them all. No corrupt official, no tenderpreneur, no patronage network must be spared,” he said.

He also called for lifestyle audits where ANC members are implicated and said those allegedly involved or found guilty should step aside.

The ANCYL further called for the recovery of public funds allegedly stolen from the municipality, saying every cent should be redirected towards service delivery.

“We insist that every cent stolen against the service delivery needs of our people must be restored,” Mofokeng said.

He said the ANCYL stood ready to support the PKTT, protect whistleblowers and support efforts to dismantle what it described as a criminal cartel operating within Emfuleni.
