ANC leads march against killing of women in Ekurhuleni

The ANC led a march in Kempton Park on Tuesday against the killing of women and children, with protesters calling for safer communities and stronger action to combat gender-based violence.

The protesters marched from Rhodesfield Park to the Kempton Park Police Station, raising their voices in solidarity with victims and demanding that women and children be able to live free from fear and violence.

The march comes amid growing concern following the discovery of the bodies of several women in and around Kempton Park and other parts of Ekurhuleni.

Among the victims was 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, who was positively identified by her family at the Germiston mortuary. Moselakgomo had gone missing after leaving her Rhodesfield home for an afternoon run.

Her body was later discovered in the area, prompting renewed concern over the safety of women living and exercising in the community.

Police are investigating several cases involving women whose bodies were discovered in the broader Kempton Park area. The circumstances surrounding the deaths have raised fears among residents, although police have not confirmed that all the cases are linked.

A multidisciplinary task team has been established to investigate the deaths and determine whether there are connections between the cases.

The marchers called for intensified police investigations, greater police visibility and accountability for those responsible for violence against women and children.
