53-year-old scholar transport driver shot dead in Westbury

A 53-year-old scholar transport driver has been shot dead in Westbury, Johannesburg, with Gauteng police launching a manhunt for two suspects.

Police received a complaint of a shooting at about 08:10 on Monday.

According to police, the victim had just dropped off schoolchildren and was about to park his vehicle at a flat in Westbury when two unknown men approached him and opened fire.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

The suspects fled in a blue Volkswagen Polo.

The motive for the shooting is not yet known.

Sophiatown police have opened a murder case, and no arrests have been made.
