224 crime incidents recorded across Cape Town and Western Cape in August

Fight Against Crime South Africa (FACSA) recorded 224 crime-related incidents across Cape Town and the Western Cape during August 2026, including 198 shooting incidents.

According to FACSA’s monthly figures, 65 fatalities were recorded in incidents classified as Code Blue, while 16 people were injured in Code Red incidents. A further 38 incidents had an unconfirmed status.

The incidents were concentrated in areas including Manenberg, Hanover Park, Tafelsig and Mitchell’s Plain, Delft, Elsies River, Khayelitsha and Valhalla Park, as well as surrounding communities.

FACSA said the reports included repeated incidents of gunfire, gang-related violence and shootings.

Several mass-shooting incidents and multiple killings were also reported during the month in areas such as Philippi, Khayelitsha, Delft, Manenberg, Athlone and Knysna.

The organisation cautioned that its figures do not represent a complete record of all crime committed in Cape Town or the Western Cape.

FACSA said the statistics are based on incidents reported to the organisation. Some cases were subsequently updated, while those that could not be confirmed remained classified as unknown.

The figures paint a picture of persistent gun violence in several communities, with 65 reported fatalities linked to Code Blue incidents during August.
