16-year-old arrested for murder of 29-year-old man in Letlhabile

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 29-year-old man in Letlhabile, North West.

The man was allegedly involved in a fight with the teenager outside a tavern in Block G at about 06:30 on Sunday.

Police said the victim was allegedly stabbed during the altercation. Community members rushed him to Letlhabile Clinic, where he was declared dead.

The victim was later identified by his mother.

Police launched an investigation and interviewed people who were at the tavern. Information gathered led officers to the teenager, who was subsequently arrested.

Police said the teenager was wearing clothing with suspected blood stains when he was arrested. The clothing was seized for forensic examination.

The weapon allegedly used in the murder has not yet been recovered.

The teenager’s parents and a probation officer have been informed of his arrest, while arrangements have been made for his detention and assessment.

He is expected to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, facing a murder charge.

North West police commissioner Lieutenant General Arthur Adams welcomed the swift arrest, saying police would continue working to ensure the case is thoroughly investigated and those responsible are brought to justice.
