Western Cape police probe Lwandle shooting that left 10 dead and 11 injured

Western Cape police have launched a multidisciplinary investigation after a shooting at an entertainment venue in Lwandle left 10 people dead and 11 others injured in the early hours of Sunday.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi has tasked the team, led by Serious Violent Crime detectives, with investigating the attack and tracking down those responsible.

According to police, gunmen entered an entertainment venue that also sells braaied meat, commonly known as a shisanyama, at about 01:46 on Sunday and opened fire on patrons.

Five victims were killed at the scene, while another five later succumbed to their injuries after being transported to medical facilities.

A further 11 victims are receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

Lwandle police have opened cases of murder and attempted murder.

No arrests have been made, with detectives continuing to work to identify and locate the suspects.

SAPS management has increased police deployments in the area as the investigation and manhunt continue.

Police said the identities of the deceased will be released once their next of kin have been informed.
