Limpopo police arrest repeat offender with R400 000 stolen vehicle bound for Beitbridge

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Polokwane after he was allegedly found driving a stolen vehicle towards the Beitbridge Port of Entry, with police describing him as a repeat offender.

The suspect was arrested on Friday, 25 September, during an intelligence-driven operation involving the Limpopo SAPS Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit, supported by private security companies.

Police said they received information that a suspected stolen vehicle was travelling from Gauteng towards Beitbridge, allegedly to be smuggled out of the country.

The teams intercepted a silver Chery Omoda on the N1 near Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Preliminary investigations established that the vehicle, valued at about R400 000, had been reported stolen in Sandton, Gauteng.

Further investigations allegedly revealed that the suspect had previously been arrested in March 2026 at the Kranskop Tollgate while driving a stolen Range Rover towards Beitbridge.

He was subsequently granted bail by the Modimolle Magistrate's Court.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Monday, facing charges including possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, driving without a valid driver's licence and fraud relating to allegedly false registration plates displayed on the vehicle.

Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers welcomed the arrest and commended the operational teams and private security partners for their efforts to disrupt the movement of stolen vehicles towards the province's borders.
