Manchester United held by Leeds as Brighton thrash Crystal Palace
Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday as the Premier League weekend delivered goals, comebacks and important points in the race for the top positions.
United took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the first half, but Leeds responded after the break when Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised in the 51st minute.
Michael Carrick’s side were unable to find a winning goal, settling for a point in a fiercely contested encounter. The result continued United’s difficult start to the league campaign as they looked to build momentum.
Brighton and Hove Albion produced one of the weekend’s biggest results, thrashing Crystal Palace 5-0. Diego Gómez scored a spectacular goal from near the halfway line as Brighton delivered a dominant performance.
Bournemouth also claimed a 2-0 victory over Sunderland, who played much of the match with 10 men after Kevin Danso was sent off. Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scored for the hosts.
On Saturday, Manchester City maintained their perfect league record with a 3-2 win over Ipswich Town. Erling Haaland scored twice as City continued their strong start to the season.
Liverpool came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 away, with Victor Muñoz and Alexander Isak scoring after Keane Lewis-Potter had opened the scoring. Brentford finished with nine players following two red cards.
Chelsea defeated Everton 2-0 through a Pedro Neto brace, while Aston Villa beat Newcastle United 1-0. Fulham recorded a 1-0 victory over Hull City.
Nottingham Forest were scheduled to host Arsenal later on Sunday, with Tottenham set to face Coventry City on Monday.
