Three killed, including two UK tourists, in N4 crash near Ngodwana

Three people, including two tourists from the United Kingdom, were killed in a multiple-vehicle crash on the N4 Toll Road near Ngodwana in Mpumalanga on Wednesday afternoon.

It is alleged that a truck travelling on the D799 Kapsehoop Road skipped an intersection and collided with three vehicles travelling on the N4.

The vehicles involved were two light delivery vehicles (LDVs) and an SUV.

The driver and passenger in the SUV, both from the UK, died on impact. The driver of one of the LDVs was also killed.

The drivers of the truck and the other LDV sustained serious injuries and were taken to Kiaat Hospital for treatment.

Emergency services remained at the scene while an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash was under way.

The road was partially closed, with traffic moving slowly. Motorists were urged to approach the area with caution.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison Jackie Macie expressed his condolences to the families of those who died and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Macie also urged motorists to exercise caution as emergency services continued working at the crash scene.

The cause of the collision is still being investigated.
