Midvaal celebrates older residents with dignity and care

Midvaal Local Municipality has reaffirmed its commitment to the wellbeing of older residents through its Older Persons Programme, held at Meyerton Town Hall on Wednesday.

The event, held as part of Older Persons Week, brought together residents aged 60 and older for a day focused on active ageing, healthy living and social inclusion.

Executive Mayor Ald. Peter Teixeira delivered the keynote address, recognising the contributions of older residents and highlighting the municipality’s commitment to ensuring that they remain supported and included in their communities.

MMC for Community Services Mary-Anne Myburgh delivered the opening remarks.

Representatives from SASSA, the Department of Health, Meyerton SAPS, the Vaal Elderly Organisation and other partner organisations provided residents with information on health, safety and available support services.

The programme also included a meal, entertainment and intergenerational activities, creating an opportunity for older residents to socialise and engage with members of the broader community.

The municipality said the programme reflected its commitment to promoting dignity, care and inclusion for older persons.
