Mako reopens key Three Rivers intersection after four-week rehabilitation
Emfuleni Executive Mayor Hassan Mako has declared the Klipriver Drive and Duma Nokwe Road intersection in Three Rivers open after four weeks of intensive rehabilitation and rebuilding work.
The intersection, an important route for residents and businesses, was reopened following confirmation from the municipality’s roads department, engineers and contractor that the work had been completed.
Mako said the reopening demonstrated the municipality’s commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges while limiting disruption to communities.
“Our people cannot be expected to carry the burden of inconvenience indefinitely when infrastructure needs to be fixed,” Mako said.
He said reliable roads were essential for residents travelling to work, businesses receiving customers and deliveries, pedestrians and emergency services.
The rehabilitation project was carried out by the municipality’s roads department, engineers and appointed contractor, with work prioritised to restore the route while maintaining required engineering standards.
The intervention also included improvements to safety at the intersection. A high-mast light has been installed and is operational, improving visibility for motorists and pedestrians at night.
The reopening was welcomed by motorists, pedestrians, residents and businesses in the area, with the municipality describing the return of traffic as a significant relief for the community.
Mako said infrastructure projects should be delivered with urgency, accountability and proper planning, while ensuring that disruption is kept to a minimum.
He added that residents should be able to see progress and experience the benefits of completed projects without being left in prolonged uncertainty.
“For the people of Three Rivers and business, the road is open again. For the municipality, the work continues,” Mako said.
