Hawks seek person of interest after Sasolburg cash-in-transit robbery

The Hawks are appealing to the public for information that could assist in locating a person of interest wanted for questioning in connection with an armed cash-in-transit robbery in Sasolburg.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, when security guards were conducting routine cash collections at retailers in the area.

According to the Hawks, one of the guards was confronted by an unknown armed suspect, who pointed a firearm at him and stole a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

About five suspects allegedly fled the scene in a blue Nissan Tiida with registration number CY28TPGP.

Security guards pursued the suspects to Minaar Street in Vaalpark, where they allegedly abandoned the vehicle and hijacked an Amarok Quantum minibus, registration number MD45GVGP, along with its driver.

The suspects then allegedly drove towards the Vereeniging taxi rank, where they abandoned the minibus and boarded a taxi travelling to Vosloorus.

During the incident, two vehicles in the vicinity and several building walls were damaged in the shooting. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The Hawks' Welkom-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) detectives are seeking Mothoezane Xaba, from Daza Hostel, whose photograph has been released by the investigators.

Xaba, who is believed to be originally from KwaZulu-Natal, is wanted for questioning and may assist investigators with the ongoing probe.
