28-year-old arrested after stolen vehicles traced to Westville

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Westville after police traced two allegedly stolen vehicles to a property in the area, including a vehicle linked to a theft case reported in Midrand last year.

The man was arrested on Thursday following an operation by the Border Policing Reaction Team and detectives attached to King Shaka International Airport (KSIA).

According to SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, the investigation followed information received after a vehicle was stolen at KSIA several days ago.

“The information led the team to an identified address in Westville, where the suspect was apprehended,” van Wyk said.

Police seized a Toyota and a BMW during the operation.

One of the vehicles was positively linked to a theft case opened at Midrand Police Station in 2025.

Further investigation revealed that fraudulent documentation had allegedly been used to purchase the vehicle from a motor dealership.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the Durban Magistrates’ Court soon,” van Wyk said.

Investigators are now probing whether the suspect could be linked to a wider vehicle theft syndicate.

The investigation remains ongoing
